A University with a
Heart
The importance of a resource center to one’s learning is as
important as the heart to a human body.
Because of this, many have considered that a Library is the heart of a
university.
The heart of our university, the PLV Library, has opened its
doors for research and study way back in 2004. It began as a humble department
at the fourth floor of the main building with just one Library staff. Since
then, the Library has grown and receives an average of 35,000 visits from
students, faculty, staff, and non-university researchers every year. Major
progress can be seen in its collection, space, and services.
Aiming for a Stronger Collection. With its main purpose of supporting the curricula of the
various courses offered by the Pamantasan, the PLV Library has continuously
acquired books, periodicals, and other non-print resources. As of today, the
collection is composed of more than 5,000 well selected materials. The
strongholds of the Library are in the fields of business administration, public
administration, elementary and secondary education, and engineering. Its collection on the fields of
accountancy, psychology, social work, information technology, and communication studies are also being developed.
Wider Space, Comfort for Everyone. Today, it is now more comfortable to
carry out review and research at the Library because of a bigger space allocation. The furniture and fixtures are also being developed through time.
More Services. The Library further promotes love for
learning and reading through its LIPS (Library Instruction Program for
Students). Promotional activities such as the resource sharing program and
several contests engage students to be active visitors. The Library has also partnered
with The National Library which allowed us to utilize KOHA, a library program
which aids in the easy search and access of materials. To
add, the Library also maintains a Facebook page to connect with students who
frequently surf the web.
Plans for improvement in the Library such as infusing
technology to introduce modernity in its services as well as more user-oriented
programs are also on the way.
Irving Stone has long attested that the better part of his
education, almost as important as that secured in schools and universities,
came from libraries. Truly, libraries are vital to everyone’s life-long
learning. And then again, one thing is for sure, the heart of our university
shall remain open to every student seeking treasures of knowledge and wisdom.
